Our Beliefs!
As a church, we have a set of essential beliefs that we follow. These are the foundation of our faith, which we hold dear as a church family.
The Scriptures
This is God’s word to us, in the Bible, consisting of 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 books in the New Testament. It was written by humans under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without error.
The Trinity
God is the creator and King of the universe. He has always existed in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are equal and one God. The Father is not the Son. The Son is not the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not the Father. Yet each is truly divine.
God the Father
The Creator of heaven and earth. The world was created from nothing by His word and for His glory. Through that same word, He sustains all of creation. He rules everything and, together with the Son and the Holy Spirit, is sovereign over all.
God the Son
Jesus Christ was born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a blameless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the wrongdoings of all people by dying on a cross. He rose from the dead after three days to prove His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return someday to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
God the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the giver of life and convicts the world of wrongdoings with righteousness and judgement. Through the Gospel, He persuades men to repent of their wrongdoings and acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord. The Holy Spirit also leads people to trust in God’s mercy. The Holy Spirit unites believers to Jesus Christ through faith and lives within the transformed.
Man
Man is made in the image of God, by God, to be like Him in character. Although everyone has the potential to be good, we are all flawed and “sin,” which is to disobey God. This separates us from God; we can only be redeemed through Christ.
The Church
The priesthood of all believers in the Lord Jesus, who are members of the one, eternal and universal church, which is the body of which Christ is the head. The Church is committed to proclaiming the gospel to the whole world, by the command of Christ. Each local church is composed of believers and is autonomous in government. The New Testament practice of a plurality of leaders equipped with appropriate spiritual gifts is the model by which it takes form. There are two main commands of the church; the baptism of believers by immersion on confession of faith in God, and the remembrance of Him through communion.
Salvation
This is God’s free gift, but we must first accept it. We can never make up for our sins through good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can we be saved from the penalty of our wrongdoings. When we turn from the ways of the world to Jesus in faith, we are saved.
